Life as a student counselor

Life as a student counselor has not been really easy. Considering, in most of your classes you are writing about your own personal demons and healing old wounds that need to be mended in case there are counter-transference issues. Everyone has a past and sometimes those pasts are very difficult to talk about, but the more you talk about them the less difficult it becomes. Without our pasts, we would not be the people we are today. I feel there are those who hang on those what ifs or regrets are really short changing themselves. By living life in the past you can never move through the present and onto the future.

I chose to go into counseling because I have a passion for stopping the cycle of domestic abuse. I have worked with many survivors of abuse and have lived through abuse myself. I have something unique to give my clients, my own personal perspective. I hope to help those move through the abuse and having the ability to move onto something better. I hope to be able to give my clients the tools to not only heal the wounds they have but have a better sense of self to move through the next difficult stage in life: acceptance and perserverance.

That is all for now. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger not weaker!
